This is not the T.V. Show

I didn't realize it until today, but there is a television show with the same name as this blog. This is not about the T.V. show nor does it have anything to do with it. Honestly, I don't know what the show is about yet. I just happened to see the name on my twitter feed today. Anyway, just wanted to put that out there in case you were looking for some info on the show.

I'm a writer and editor and that's mainly what this blog is about, things that come up in my work mixed with a little bit about me and the rest of my life. I write mostly paranormal stories, and edit lifestyle magazine articles and the name Penny Dreadful is in reference to the old penny dreadfuls - info can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_dreadful.

Goodbye my Love, now its time to go

If there's a book you really want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it. ~Toni Morrison

I've been hard at work lately getting things organized for my latest writing creation.  It's been going well so far.  With the kiddies out of school for the summer, life has been hectic - :) more so than usual, I mean.  But Im sad that in just a few short short weeks, they will be off to school again and my days will be a bit lonelier.  Another reason, I've been organizing my new novel....it'll be good to have a few new characters in my life :).

I've come to rely on inspirational quotes to get me motivated to keep writing after the long days.  I remember the times when I used to eat sleep and breathe writing.  I miss that old me.  Time to get her back.

Meanwhile, on a sad note, Borders is closing down.  I'm pretty sad about it, its the only place I buy my books.  I was hoping they'd just close down the physical stores but keep the online open at least, but alas, no such luck.  So now in the coming months I'm going to have to find a new place to roam when I need a good book.  Barnes and Noble has never been my favorite, but it looks like thats the next best option.

Well, until next time, have a lovely day and night. See you soon.

Been hard at work

Lots of stuff has happened since I've been away.  Trying to get back into the groove now though.  Moved, travelled, worked, now back to my love....writing.  Let me just unpack and I'll be right back.

New Mission for 2010

On the subject of reading 100 books this year.. I've gotten off to a slow start.  I finally decided on a Young Adult series that-well, it's actually been around for a minute, but I'm going to count it as a new release for 2010 because the first three books of the series are included in a new single edition released January 2010. (Forgive me, I was indecisive about where to start and I haven't read anything by this author yet.)

So away I go. The first book of the Sweep series is called "Book of Shadows"....for those familiar with the term, this is a book about witches.  It's 176 pages long... so I'll see you on the other side.

Back in action for 2010

Wow! It's been a long couple of months!  The holidays always seem to go that way, though.  Well, here's a blog to get things started of right.

News:  I've mostly been working on my writing projects over the holidays, started with NaNoWriMo in November and boy was it intense.  So I've set my novel aside for a few weeks to get ready for my second round of editing.  This, I hope will give me time to keep up and improve on my three Examiner.com columns...which you can find the links to in my bio.

Adventuring:  I've decided to give this blog a bit more focus and center this year on reading.  I've set a goal of reading 100 books between now and January 1, 2011.  I'm limiting that list to new releases only and only those that fall within the paranormal/urban fantasy genre.  Both eBooks and the printed and bound versions.  This should be a nice adventure.  I usually don't read romance novels, however, paranormal ones tend to have one with greater potential as memorable.

So authors out there, you are welcome to provide or suggest new book titles in the genre for reading and review.  All reviews will be posted here...the best (or worst) ones will likely make it to my Paranormal Entertainment column for a wider audience.

In the meantime, I'm off to wrap up some research and put the kiddies to bed.

Talk to you soon,
Elle.

Stretching my legs and flexing my fingers

Wow its been almost two months since I last wrote here. Not that I haven't been busy writing . . . just busy with other stuff as well. You know how it is. The babies and I are getting over what seems to have been the flu. A fairly mild one compared to the last time we got sick, so I'm grateful.

I'm literally stretching in between paragraphs as I write this. It's National Novel Writing Month and I'm already behind. (Hey, I was out sick.) So I have some make up work to do. But never fear, I'm ready for the challenge. How about it, do you NaNo? LOL and is that a proper way to phrase that question?

Well, the babes are down for a nap now, so here's my chance to get started. In the meantime, if you have looked yet . . . I have a new column at Examiner.com. I'm still the El Paso Motherhood Examiner, but I've also gone National with the new one: Paranormal Entertainment Examiner. It's right up my alley.

So here's the contact info up-to-date:

A day in the life . . .

I recently started writing for an Examiner column called "El Paso Motherhood". That's been going well, I've had some good feedback on articles. Stop by and check it out if you get the chance.

Meanwhile, I've been working really hard at getting Red Honey magazine back up. The website was supposed to be up this week already, but I had to postpone it for a few days. Should be good to go very soon though. Very very soon. I'm So Excited!

Otherwise, I've been pretty busy with my babies Sunshine and Rain. They've been keeping me busy since school is out. One more month though! LOL
